Hey everyone, it's Rachel here from Rachel's Rocks Canada. Oh, how I've missed sharing these moments with you all! It's been a while since my last post, and I'm so grateful you're still here, painting along or just dropping by for a little inspiration. Today, I want to take you behind the scenes of my latest rock – this enchanting snowy bonsai under a swirling Aurora Borealis sky. It's not just a piece of art; it's a little escape into winter magic that warmed my heart during some chilly days.
As I sat down to paint this one, the rock felt like a blank canvas whispering stories of quiet resilience. I started with that simple gold frame, and as I layered on the whites and blues, it brought back memories of those crisp Canadian nights by Lake Superior, where the northern lights dance like they're putting on a private show. Blending the lime greens, purples, and magentas for the sky – oh, it stirred up this sense of wonder in me. You know that feeling when the world feels vast and full of possibility? That's what hit me as the colors merged, imperfect but alive, like the aurora itself.
No stress about perfection; it's all about letting the flow happen, just like life. Then came the bonsai tree – twisting branches reaching out, dusted with snow that sparkles like fresh fallen flakes. As I added the dove gray and white piles, I couldn't help but think of how snow transforms everything it touches, turning ordinary into something ethereal. It reminded me of my own journey: starting with a bumpy rock, adding layers of color and glitter (that homemade watercolor with its blue-pink shimmer is my secret weapon!), and watching it come alive. The hologram sparkles in the dark blue sky? Pure starry magic – it makes me smile every time, imagining it twinkling in someone's home. This rock, like all my pieces, is about turning the everyday into something special. It's got me excited for more night shifts at the hospital where I sneak in some painting time – those quiet hours fuel my creativity.

And speaking of smiles, let's talk about Halloween! I poured my heart into making a Venom costume for my son Jax this year. He wanted to be Venom, and I dreamed up this symbiote bursting out of him like in the movies. Glue-gunning all that slimy texture onto a fake arm while his real one "transformed" – it was messy, fun, and totally worth it. Seeing him strut around collecting candy, grinning ear to ear, reminded me why I create: for those joyful connections. Mama's proud moment right there!

But honestly, things have been tough with my shop. Shipping to the U.S. has been a nightmare with tariffs eating away at everything. I've got stacks of beautiful rocks waiting to find homes, but I can't risk upsetting you wonderful supporters. If anyone has tips on affordable Canada-to-U.S. shipping, please email me at rachelsrockscanada@gmail.com – I'd be over the moon (and maybe even pay for the advice!). If this snowy bonsai sparks something in you, grab your paints and watch the full video here.
Paint along with me – change up the colors, make it your own! It's therapeutic, I promise. And if you love it, hit that like or hype button, share with a friend, or drop a comment below. Your support means the world and helps keep this little rock-painting dream alive. Keep painting, keep shining, and let's chase those northern lights together. Love you all! 🌲✨
